Delayed flights
Several fixed-compensation schemes start at 3 hours late at the final destination, but not all do: Israel uses an 8-hour departure test and US law has no flat delay payment. The route, carrier, cause and applicable rule decide the answer.
What it can pay.
Ceilings and entitlements under the named rule, per passenger, before our fee. What applies to your itinerary is confirmed during review, and every estimate stays an estimate until then.

- Anything the airline sent about the delay
- Receipts for meals, hotels or transport the delay forced

Good to know
- Many routes, including US domestic flights and most domestic flying outside Europe and Canada, have no fixed cash compensation scheme at all. Refund, rerouting or documented-expense rights may still exist under another rule or the ticket, but they are not automatic in every case; our checker says plainly when nothing we take on is left to claim.
- Distance decides the amount under the 261-family rules, in bands at 1,500 km and 3,500 km. One exception: a flight entirely inside the EU pays the middle amount however long it is, so a 4,000 km hop within Europe is not treated as long-haul.
- Extraordinary circumstances such as severe weather can remove fixed compensation under some schemes. Whether a crew or technical problem qualifies depends on the rule and the evidence; it is not decided by the airline's label alone.
